Would you like to literally follow in the footsteps of Norwegian military history? This summer, NIA is partnering with local guides to offer exciting tours to Vemork along the old "saboteur route" over the mountains!

This summer, we’re repeating the success of previous years with the most vivid and historically accurate way to experience the historic site of Vemork. The hike begins near beautiful Møsvann, and you’ll then walk, accompanied by an experienced guide, up into the mountains toward Vestfjorddalen and Vemork.

This so-called “Saboteur’s March” takes you through the same terrain—with both beautiful views and physical challenges—as the original saboteurs from the Gunnerside team did during World War II. The total length of the hike is about one mil and usually takes two to three hours, though each group is different.

Note that the final descent toward the saboteurs’ target—the power plant at Vemork—is quite steep, so being in decent physical shape and wearing good shoes are a must. Overall, the hike is of moderate difficulty, but there will be regular breaks during which the guide will recount the nerve-wracking events the saboteurs went through during the war!

  • Guided tour through historic terrain, stunning views, a unique experience

You can order a meal at the museum during your visit by making a reservation in advance, and, weather and staffing permitting, a guided tour of Vemorksjuvet, which was crossed by the saboteurs; contact booking@nia.no for more information and assistance with this.

  • Guide, admission to the Norwegian Industrial Workers' Museum at Vemork, transportation back to the starting point.
  • You are eligible to receive a full refund of the booking amount if you cancel your reservation at least 15 days before the scheduled start time.
NOTE: REGISTRATION IS BINDING FOR THE SELECTED DATE DUE TO LIMITED SPACE The tours in the summer of 2026 will primarily be conducted in Norwegian. However, an English-speaking guide can be requested upon request, though one may not always be available. Contact booking@nia.no for more information if this is of interest to you.
